New SIAM publication by NIOZ researchers focuses on Marine nitrogen cycling dynamics under altering redox conditions in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea

NIOZ recently published a new SIAM paper about the marine nitrogen cycle under low oxygen conditions, using Mediterranean Sea sapropels as a framework to establish potential feedbacks between oxygen levels and ¬†shifts in the marine N-cycle. SIAM researchers at NIOZ ( Zoe van Kemenade and Darci Rush) also provided more insight on redox conditions during both S1 and a period that was far less constrained (the ambiguous S2 sapropel). It’s a collaboration with the NIOZ MMB and OCS departments and the University of Angers in France.
