SIAM Final Symposium: celebrating 10 years of great research

On September 6 and 7 2023, in Egmond aan Zee, about 56 participants got together to celebrate 10 years of SIAM research on anaerobic microbiology. The event saw the participation of current researchers, alumni, PIs and members of both the Utilisation Board and the Advisory Board.

A stimulating and festive atmosphere characterized these two days of debates, scientific presentations and also social events. Thanks to the good weather we could also enjoy the nice beach and the sea!

Among the most interesting sessions, the career development with Alumni presentations:
Cornelia Welte (Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, Radboud University), Jules Rombouts, (Co-Founder & CTO – Nature’s principles) and Hanne Tytgat (Microbiome Group Lead – Nestle’ Research
Debate; Q&A) gave to the audience a panorama of different career choices and possibilities- all as a result of have been a SIAM researcher.

A workshop on presentation skills was also part of the programme and has been very much appreciated.

The second day of the Final Symposium was dedicated completely to the scientific presentations of current PhD or PD researchers. They could choose between a full presentation or a 3 minute talk. The balanced alternation between these two options helped in keeping the public’s attention stimulated.

The SIAM Final Symposium has been a great event and a fantastic opportunity for networking and bonding with professionals of the same field and belonging to different partner institutions.
